The history of Alonnisos is lost in the distant επιπλα past. In an effort to regain the precious moments of this long journey from the past Constantinos Mavrikis, took the initiative and in 2001 he created the History and Folklore Museum in Patitiri, which today is the capital of Alonnisos.
The museum is housed in a four-story stone building in the villages port and it is divided into five wards, archaeology, piracy, national memory, folklore of Alonnisos and the collection of marine antiquities that have been discovered in the area.
Inside, the museum exhibits precious objects from antiquity and modern times, warships, guns, compasses and many other things that will capture the eye of every visitor.
Within the museum you will find many photographs, coins from different eras, historical documents, brochures and books.
In the hall of folklore you will find yourself in front of a rich collection of relics and objects related to the history and tradition of the area.

In the past, Alonnisos was also called the Cave of Thieves and Demon Island due to her major issue with the pirate invasions. The piracy problem continued even after the revolution of 1821 when a great general, Andreas Miaoulis, was urgently called to deal with the situation.

In the pirate ward of the museum you will have the rare opportunity to see a collection of παιδικα επιπλα pirate objects like pirate trombones, handcuffs used to hold slaves, nail bombs and iron needles used from pirates to jump aboard to the invaded ships. The most impressive exhibit is an anchor used for resalto.
